Bio

Sunset portrait of Shalom Ormsby by Richard Marks, shot in Maui, Hawaii

My name is Shalom Ormsby. I’m a photographer and digital artist whose studio is located in the San Francisco Bay Area. The focus of my work lies at the intersection of art, spirit, creative play, and a passionate love of nature.

Early in life, I had the good fortune of traveling far beyond the borders of the United States and Europe, which opened my eyes, mind, and heart in profound ways. I spent nearly three years in Asia, traveling, photographing, and being awed from India to Nepal, Korea, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia.

In 2000, Trinette Reed and I cofounded Plush Studios, a collective of talented photographers whose work Plush licensed for the artists. In 2004, I collaborated with 22 fellow photographers to cofound Blend Images, a stock agency created “for photographers, by photographers.” Blend offers commercial images – both stills and motion – that celebrate the diversity of our colorful, multicultural world. I’m currently serving a fifth year on Blend’s board of directors.

Currently, I’m in the process of creating a fine art collective called Flowst8, which features awe-inspiring creations by independent filmmakers and digital artists from around the world. Stay tuned for more info about this…

My loves include nature, all forms of soulful art, music, and dance, organics & vegetarianism, healthy living, minimalism, modern design & architecture, Buddhism – especially Zen, Vipassana, and Tibetan – traveling around our beautiful planet, and just about everything that ignites the imagination.
